Horticulture

On the land of Rancho Lum Ha’ we developed a horticulture operation aimed at demonstrating regenerative agroecology practices, producing vegetables, grains and medicinal plants. The harvest is destined for the Lum Ha’ processing center and our local customer community.

During 2021 and 2022 we expanded the production space from 500m2 to 2500m2 where tons of manure and organic waste have been transformed into humus. We invested in a tomato greenhouse, a bio-fertilizer factory, a chili greenhouse, a greenhouse as seedbed, seed bank, worm farm and irrigation infrastructure.

As a next step we are in the process of forming a team of young people from the local community to operate this project on their own plots. We achieved this with the experience and practice gained here at the ranch through regular visits from agricultural experts and educational trips to successful permaculture projects in Mexico. We expect to double production over the course of 2022-2023.

We are in the process of opening a “Rancho Lum Ha'” store in San Cristobal de las Casas. A very important platform for the commercialization of all the high value processed products from the ranch and the productive plots of the region.

Throughout 2023 with your support we will be able to successfully promote productive plots under the standards of regenerative agroecology with at least 5 families in the community.
